About Us

– Built by students. Backed by science. Bound for space –

Our Story

DISCO is a student-led mission under the national CubeSat program DISCO, involving students from Aarhus University, the University of Southern Denmark, and the IT University of Copenhagen in cross-disciplinary satellite development.

Our orbit extends beyond space itself — into a growing network of students, researchers, and industry partners shaping Denmark’s space economy.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop competencies among Danish students for the space sector, promote interest in STEM education, and enhance Denmark’s position in space technology.

Students engage in all phases, from design and testing to mission operations, gaining technical expertise and an entrepreneurial mindset that reflects the future of the Danish space sector.

DISCO is the Danish Student CubeSat Program, where students design, build, test, and operate real satellites across multiple missions.

No. Students from all backgrounds are welcome – engineering, physics, IT, design, communication, and more. DISCO is student-driven, and you will learn by doing.

DISCO is not a classroom, and there are no formal teachers. Instead, students learn by doing: researching, experimenting, and collaborating across teams.

You get guidance from more experienced students and support from university labs, but you drive your own learning.

This independence is what makes DISCO a real-world space experience.

Students primarily come from Aarhus University, SDU, and ITU, but any student in Denmark can apply if they are motivated.

It varies a lot. Most students contribute around 2-10 hours per week, depending on their team and the current project phase.

During exam periods, we do not expect students to contribute – your studies always come first.

DISCO has many different teams. When you apply, we place you in a team based on your interests, motivation, and any experience you already have.

DISCO is volunteer-based, but many universities offer 5 ECTS project courses, Bachelor projects, and even Master’s theses based on DISCO work.

We’re happy to help guide you toward the right option.
